The Red Hot Chili Peppers Were formed in Los Angeles in 1983, with a musical style of rock and funk, they have sold over 80 million albums. Today only two of the founding members remain performing with the band, singer Antony Kiedis and bass player Flea.
Having released 10 studio albums they gained mainstream popularity with their 5th release, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which had several successful singles. But my personal favourite has to be the 1995 album One Hot Minute. The Red Hot Chili Peppers visited the island in 2014 playing at the Isle of Wight festival.
This area of Newport was originally a public pond for watering cattle coming in to Newport for the market from the north of the island. The sculptures here and on the other side of the road were commissioned by the council in 1999 with a generous funding from Sainsbury’s. These sculptures depict the industrial heritage of the area, this brook powered 9 mills and the railway passed over this area on a brick viaduct and metal bridge.
Stealth will be needed here as this is a busy area for shoppers and commuters.
