The Village of Delia was issued its charter on July 20, 1914. It was named after the wife (her first name) of the area's first postmaster A. L. Davis.
Prior to that, it was called Highland because it was the highest point on the C.N.R. railway between Calgary and Saskatoon. If you travel 8 km south from Delia to the Handhills, you can enjoy the view. On a clear day, you can actually see the Rockies from the top of the Handhills (plus find a few more caches ;) ).
Go to cache's posted coordinates WP1 - N51 37.895 W112 22.246. These coordinates will direct you to the largest of two solar panel arrays in Delia. Its official opening was held on June 6, 2008. According to the company that built the array, you are looking at the largest free standing solar array in Western Canada. The array provides 10kW of power for the village’s water plant and puts any excess power back into the electrical grid. It was completely funded by government grants and cost ~$150,000. The Village saves about $600/month on utility costs because of the array. From this WP, please answer the following question:
Q1 How many solar panels are in the array?
Now move around to the front of the pump house at WP2 - N51 37.915 W112 22.264 and you'll find a pricing sheet posted to the wall listing the water truck fill rate. Please answer the following hypothetical question:
Q2 How many gallons of water could you purchase for 80 cents?
If you turn around, you should be able to see the second solar panel array attached to the arena (large white building from this vantage point, just past the campgrounds). That's your third destination WP3 - N51 37.990 W112 22.251.
Once you get there, please answer the following questions:
Q3 How many solar panels in the array at the arena?
Q4 How many downspouts are along this side of the arena?
With all all four questions answered, please complete the following calculations to find the final cache location:
XXX = (Q1 * Q2)/2 - 346
YYY = Q3 * Q4 + 178
The final coordinates are at N 51° 37.XXX W 112° 22.YYY
Good luck! If you are able to, you can check your answer here
Once you have the final coordinates, remember to be respectful of the cache location. Please bring your own pen(cil)/writing instrument to sign the log. Please be very aware of how and where cache is "attached" so that it can be put back in exactly the same way and in the same place for the next person(s) to enjoy. Thanks.
