This year my classroom has been exploring geocaching by taking walking field trips to find caches near our school; learning about latitude, longitude, and coordinates; exploring the travels of Travel Bugs; how to hide a cache; and proper etiquette of geocaching.
We have learned a lot from this little cache, and that maybe new cachers might benefit from some information on micro caches such as this little one.
1. This cache is a micro cache which means it only has room for a paper log. After finding this cache, sign the log in the cache, and then remember to sign the online log here (there are 17 signatures in the log, but only 12 original entries here). The students love reading the logs posted here!
2. Something to keep in mind about SWAG (toys and goodies found in caches) - if it doesn't fit, it doesn't stay. Leaving SWAG hanging on the branches not only ruins the search for other geocachers, but alerts muggles (people who don't geocache) of the possible hide.
3. No alterations should be made to the outside of any cache. The Cache Owner (in this case, the students), picked a black bison so that, not only would it be a little harder to find, but that is wouldn't be visible to muggles.
Thank you and cache on!
