"The Rose" located in the heart of Brampton was inspired by London, England renowned Rose Theatre of Shakespearean times. It opened in September 2006. It was built over a parking lot on land which originally going to be used to construct an apartment building, but the soil was found to be too wet and the result was the Rose Theatre was built there instead. A new fountain stage was unveiled June 2008. The theatre includes a main performance hall with seating for 880, and a smaller multi-purpose hall with seating for 130-160. It was the final stop of the 2010-2011 American/Canadian national tour of The Wizard of Oz. The building ran on generators in summer 2011, due to electrical problems. Electricity was shut off again in late October 2011, due to water seepage in the electrical room. The theatre cancelled to performances of I, Claudia because it was running on generators. Other shows continued without heat, elevators, and with lots of the parking garage closed off because they were too dark. There are many entertainment talents whose roots lie in Brampton. Music acts include the Punk band The Flatliners, Rhythm and Blues singer Keshia Chante, country singer Johnny Reid, "Metal Queen" Lee Aaron, pop singer Alyssa Reid, and rapper D-Pryde, Don Reynolds, music lived here from 1969 to 1997.
