Geocache Description:

Tinto stands at 711m (2333ft) as an outlying hill from the Southern Uplands.

Ascent of 486m (1594ft) from Car Park to Summit. Despite common beliefs, Tinto is smaller than it's nearby neighbour Coulter/Culter Fell which is only just in South Lanarkshire. Tinto translates as Fire Hill, possibly due to the red stone visible on the hill. Good views from Tinto (weather dependent) with visibilty of nearly 100 miles on some days. It is also popular for Paragliders, some were present in the skies above Tinto the day I placed the cache. There is a hill running race each November which is usually popular. You can access the cache from the Car Park at Thankerton or if you're looking for a challenge, you can tackle Tinto from Wiston Lodge via Pap Craig or if you're even more adventurous, Lochlyoch Hill.

The cache is located in exactly the same location as the previous cache. Please replace well and have a bit of stealth. Take care in the winter as it can be slippy or completely covered in snow. Room for trackables who don't suffer from altitude sickness. Happy Caching!

Cache placed with the kind permission of the Fox family, St John's Kirk Estate, Symington. Congratulations to Morag Harley, Ruco16, cloventrout, BURTON, 3 kinnears, Saintchris13, Scottiedogz, pumpkin-head and Finlay & His Drudge for the FTF
