Trail is open 7 Am to 8 PM. DO NOT PARK ON SUTTLE ROAD - IT IS A PRIVATE ROAD!!!!! Grab your horse, ride your bike or take a hike on the Cazadero Trail! One hundred years ago, trains chugged along Deep Creek, transporting timber from Cascade forests to the Portland riverfront. Soon, nature lovers will traverse the four-mile stretch of that journey between Boring and the rural wayside of Barton – this time, by foot or bike. The former Oregon Water Power and Railway Co. line is being reinvented as the Cazadero Trail, an extension of the popular Springwater Corridor. Future trail users will enjoy the scenic, forested setting, which makes Deep Creek a haven for salmon and steelhead. The State of Oregon, which owns the right-of-way, is building the trail. But key pieces were missing, so Metro used its natural areas bond measure to help create “bookends” at each end of the Cazadero. To the north, Clackamas County’s local share of the bond is developing Boring Station Trailhead Park as a recreational hub at the junction of the Springwater and Cazadero trails. Four miles away, Metro purchased land next to Barton Park as a southern trailhead for the Cazadero. But this isn’t the end of the line. There’s talk of extending the trail beyond Barton, through Eagle Creek, Estacada, the Faraday, Cazadero and Promontory Park areas, eventually connecting to Mount Hood and the Pacific Crest Trail. All aboard!
Congrats to Geo2some on their FTF! Here is what they had to say: "FTF at 5:10 PM. YAY!!! Nice reward on this very hot July 4. Trail needs some of the weeds cut back to make the hike even nicer."
