Geocache Description:

Margate is changing. This cache is about what used to be, what is and what might be in the future.  The challenge is to see the past in the present.

This is a very Two dimensional cache. The idea is that when the hardware store is knocked down, you can see what used to be there. Local girl, Georgie Moore, grew up in "the old Tanner" house. It survived the 1967 bushfires (when everything else was burnt around it) and various incarnations as a general store and bakery. It is currently a hardware store - slated for demolition. The vestiges of a beautiful old garden, and a large oak tree, will shorlty give way to a modern development. Georgie's parents were Zelda and John Tanner. Zelda joined the military in Melbourne whilst John was missing in action for three and a half years. John spent time in TImor and in Changi prison. Little sister Genevieve grew up to be Miss Tasmania 1975. Georgie returned to the family store and bakery as a married woman. She worked along side her beloved Father for nine years, with her own children under her feet. Many will be sad to see the old building go. If you locate this cache, you will find photographs of the past.
