Nowe Miasto Lubawskie - miasto z duszą.
Nowe Miasto Lubawskie założone zostało na planie zbliżonym do kwadratu, z dużym kwadratowym rynkiem pośrodku. Z rogów rynku wytyczono po dwie prostopadłe ulice, które wydzielały osiem podstawowych bloków zabudowy. Wzdłuż parcel biegły ulice pomocnicze, umożliwiające dojazd do zabudowań gospodarczych. W latach 30. XIV wieku miasto zostało otoczone murami obronnymi z trzema bramami (Lubawska, Brodnicka, Bratiańska). Wokół dawnej przestrzeni średniowiecznego miasta lokacyjnego, poza dwiema basztami bramnymi, zachowały się fragmenty muru liniowego i prostokątnych baszt łupinowych. Ciekawym reliktem godnym uwagi jest dolna część łupinowej baszty okrągłej, zlokalizowanej na terenie posesji kościoła p.w. św. Tomasza Apostoła.
Dopiero w II połowie XIX wieku w Nowym Mieście Lubawskim zaczęto budować nowe domy mieszkalne poza terenem dawnych fortyfikacji miejskich. W roku 1866 władze miejskie podjęły starania o przygotowanie planu rozbudowy. W latach 1895-1905 obszar administracyjny miasta wzrósł o 39 ha, a liczba domów mieszkalnych z 234 do 315. Na miejscu wcześniejszej zabudowy średniowiecznej i XVII/XVIII-wiecznej powstały wówczas liczne kamienice, m. in. przy ulicach: Kościelnej, Działyńskich, Kazimierza Wielkiego, 3 Maja, a także Sienkiewicza i Kościuszki. Wiele domów z czasów tego dynamicznego rozwoju zachowało się do dnia dzisiejszego. Wąskie uliczki i historyczny rynek nieustannie tętnią życiem.
Nowe Miasto Lubawskie - Town with the Soul.
Nowe Miasto Lubawskie was established on a plan close to a square with a large main square in the middle. From the corners of the main square there were two perpendicular streets marked out, which portioned eight basic blocks of buildings. Along the plots, auxiliary streets ran that gave access to utility buildings. In the 30s of the 14th century, the town was encircled with defensive walls with
three gates (Lubawska, Brodnicka, and Bratiańska). Around the former area of medieval chartered town; apart from two gate towers, there are fragments of line walls and rectangular half-shell towers. An interesting relic of the past is a lower part of round half-shell tower located in the area of the St. Thomas the Apostle’s Church.
Only in the second half of the 19th century, new residential buildings were erected outside the area of former town fortifications in Nowe Miasto Lubawskie. In 1866, town authorities made efforts to draw up a development plan. Between 1845 and 1905, an administrative area of the town increased by 39 ha, and a number of residential houses changed from 234 to 315. At the place of former Medieval and 17th century and 18th century buildings there were numerous tenement houses erected then; among others, at the following streets: Kościelna, Działyńskich, Kazimierza Wielkiego, 3 Maja, and also Sienkiewicza and Kościuszki. Many buildings of those times of dynamic development preserved till today. The alleys and the historical main square are continuously teeming with life.
Nowe Miasto Lubawskie - Stadt mit einer Seele.
Schalen-Eck-Bastei Nowe Miasto Lubawskie wurde auf einem dem Viereck nähernden Plan mit dem Markt in der Mitte gegründet. Von den Ecken wurden zwei senkrechte Straßen geleitet, die acht grundlegende Bebauungsbezirke abgesondert haben. Entlang den Parzellen liefen kleinere Gassen, die die Zufahrt zu den Wirtschaftsgebäuden ermöglichten. In den 30-er Jahren des 14. Jhs. wurde die Stadt von den Festungsmauern mit drei Toren (Lubawska, Brodnicka, Bratiańska) umgeben. Um das ehemalige Bezirk der mittelalterlichen Stadt sind außer von zwei Torbasteien lediglich Fragmente der Linienmauer und den eckigen Schalenbasteien erhalten geblieben. Interessant ist der untere Teil der runden Schalenbastei, die sich auf dem Gelände der Tomas-Apostel-Kirche.
Erst in der zweiten Hälfte des 19 Jhs. hat man begonnen in Nowe Miasto Lubawskie Wohnhäuser außerhalb von der Gelände der ehemaligen Festungsanlange zu bauen. 1866 haben die Stadtbehörden Bestrebungen unternommen, die auf die Vorbereitung des Bebauungsplans zielten. In
