Sackville Reach Historic Cemetery is also known as St Thomas Cemetery, named after the historic St Thomas’s church and schoolhouse that once held pride of place adjacent to the cemetery. A small church building was completely destroyed and washed away by the great flood of 1867. Today a concrete obelisk marks the site of the original church.
Based on the surviving headstones, the cemetery records burials over the 1827 – 1987 period with 163 names recorded on 85 headstones. It is not known how many monuments were destroyed by the floods that have swept through this area.
There is an additional plaque on obelisk commemorating the individuals who arrived on the First Fleet and are buried in the cemetery, for the EG-Q Final Puzzle make a note of who placed the plaque in 1988.
Note: Bring your own pen/pencil to sign the log.
