The House of the Indigent

Przechodząc w pobliżu Nowego kleparza, być może zastanawialiście się, co jest za charakterystycznym murem... Otóż jest tam Dom Ubogich im. Ludwika i Anny Helclów w Krakowie. Powstał on w wyniku fundacji zasłużonych dla Krakowa małżonków Anny z Treutleów i Ludwika Helclów. Ludwik Helcel był pierwszym wiceprezydentem miasta Krakowa, był także członkiem i podstarszym Krakowskiej Kongregacji Kupieckiej.
Zapis w testamencie Anny Helcel z 1878 r. kreował powstanie Domu Ubogich fundacji Helclów przeznaczonego dla 250 do 300 osób. Dom ten powstał przy ówczesnej ulicy Polnej, przemianowanej następnie na ulice Helclów. Dom zaprojektował i wybudował architekt miejski – Tomasz Pryliński. Otwarcie nastąpiło w roku 1890.

Behind the big wall there is The House of the Indigent. It has been built thanks to the wealth of a family of Kraków merchants named Helcel. Anna Helcel in her testament in 1878 established The Helcel Fund of the House of the Indigent; the house itself was then designed and constructed by an architect called Tomasz Pyrliński. The opening ceremony took place in 1890.
