Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed co-ordinates - this is the entrance to Aylesford Cemetery where you will need to take a wander and collect some information before heading off to the final GZ. Please Note: Aylesford Cemetery is only open at the following times: March-October 8.30am-7.30pm; November-February 8.30am-4.00pm. The final cache is accessible at all times.

Although in close proximity to the M20, a busy railway line and an industrial estate, Aylesford Cemetery still manges to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. As looking for information on gravestones is one of our favourite activities (as part of the Church Micro series ) we thought it would be a good idea to encourage visitors to have a wander around this lovely location. Whilst collecting the information for this cache we enjoyed reading the history of some of the former residents of Aylesford.

We were particularly interested in the 23 War Graves that we found here and went home to research further. We found the following information on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Website (visit link)

Further information on the Cemetery - including information about how the plots are organised and maintained can be found in documents on the Parish Council website. (visit link)

To collect the numbers for this geocache you will need to take a clockwise meander around the cemetery, from the entrance gate waypoint (adjacent to the cemetery parking spot). Keep a close eye on the gravestones as you go. Information can be found on six different gravestones. Replace the letters with numbers.
