At 11.11 am. 27 November 1944 the depot at Fauld became the site of the largest explosion in the UK, when 3,670 tons of bombs stored underground exploded en masse.
For more detail about this event see the local Earth Cache- Fauld Crater
Parking is available at the waypoint, where there is also a notice board showing three possible circular walks. This cache series follows most of the waymarked Red Route past the crater rim. Taking in all the caches will be about 2 miles.
The fields get muddy in wet weather, there are styles to climb so basic agility is necessary. Also be aware that there is often livestock roaming the fields!
The series includes a variety of cache types and size, but since the dominant plant in the area is hawthorn you can expect to get punctures!
