Geocache Description:

MGA15

Welcome to the 12th Annual Metroparks Geocaching Adventure 2015, a geocaching game placed by MiGO members in partnership with the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. In order to complete the series, you will need to find the special cache hidden in each of the 13 Metroparks.

For links to all of the caches in the series please Click Here. At each cache obtain a word or words for the word search puzzle found here These words can be found on the laminated card within the cache. The underlined words on the card can be entered on the word search puzzle form and circled within the word search puzzle.

You will also need to copy a code such as "B = 6". This code will help you record your progress and can be used to unveil the Bonus Cache Coordinates. The bonus cache will be launched on September 12, 2015. This is the same day as the Geocaching Event at Lake Erie Metropark. Watch the Metroparks Geocaching Adventure 2015 Picnic Page for more details. Copy the code exactly. The code is to be placed in the appropriate locations in the brochure found here. That section of the brochure may be submitted for inclusion in the drawing for one of the 2016 Metroparks Annual Passes. When you have logged your finds of all 13 Geocaches you should enter the codes into the on-line form found HERE. You will then be E-mailed instructions as to how to submit your entry.

The theme for this year's series is TRAILS IN THE METROPARKS .

Our Metroparks have approximately 250 miles of various types of trails including hiking, biking, mountain biking, nature, ski, horse, and canoe. Many are maintained year round and some are seasonal. All, in one way or another, encourage us to get out and enjoy the outdoors! Each MGA2015 Geocache will contain a card discussing trails in that park.

The cache is located less than 30 feet from the trail so bushwhacking further than that is not necessary and is discouraged to reduce impact on the environment. Please park at the coordinates shown in the Waypoint table and start your walk at the Trailhead coordinates.

A Letterbox Hybrid is another form of Geocache that uses clues instead of coordinates. The coordinates at the top of the page take you to the new Marsh Boardwalk where you will start your adventure.

The 700-foot boardwalk and the Point Rosa Marsh that you will cross are part of a project to restore coastal wetlands within the park. Enhancements to the marsh included phragmites eradication, removal of built-up sediment along the shoreline and construction of shallow water habitat for native birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Water from the redesigned parking lot project now enters this marsh system after it has been collected and treated in a series of wetlands, ponds, canals and vegetative buffers. The marsh provides additional biological treatment of the water prior to entering Lake St. Clair. Previously, untreated storm water from the 40-acre parking lot was allowed to flow through pipes directly into the Black Creek, upstream of the swimming beach. The projects work together to enhance the quality of the marsh and the water quality at the beach.

The Wolverine's Travels

The wolverine's adventure begins as he swims ashore at Lake St. Clair Metropark. He is looking for a likely place to hide but is faced by a parking lot to the east and north with a marsh to the west. Being tired of walking in wet fur he avoids the marsh, dashes across the parking lot and comes to a boardwalk guarded by a set of warning posts. Since he is not a dog he decides to continue.

On either side of the wooden trail are marsh grasses and cattails. There are mysterious tracks in the grasses to distract him. The song of spring peepers and red winged blackbirds also lure him to stop along the way but he travels on to find a treasured spot.

He comes to a cross road. He decides to continue his way north. On the east side of the trail he sees a birdhouse and flyway. He passes another post with a white number 8 on the top. As he continues his travels he sees a set of roots that look like a possible site to make a den but the earth is too well packed to dig out a spot.

Next he finds another post with a white 7. To the west is a small pond. A sign says “One Stop Shopping”? He wonders what it could mean. A number of benches look tempting to stop and rest awhile but the area is too open for his taste.

At a post with a white 6 he sees another shorter boardwalk. To the north are two hydra willow trees at each end of the wooden walk. He goes past the post that has a large red circle. It warns no fishing, no dogs, no running and no bikes. The second hydra willow has three large trunks. The treasured spot is 15 paces from the trail and he decides to finally take his rest.
