Cardigan Bay (1956 - 1988) was one of the most successful harness racing horses in New Zealand. Affectionately known as "Cardy", he was the first Standardbred to win US$1 million in prize money in North America. Cardigan Bay won races in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United States and famously appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.
This cache is located on a local bridle path between Whitford and Beachlands. With great views out to Rangitoto and lovely vistas across farmland and mangroves this walk/MTB/horse ride is approximately 4-5km with access from Henson Road, Portersfield Road (car park waypoint) or Clifton Road. As many local riders use this bridle path please don’t spook the horses when passing.
