Rabbit Foot Lake was another homesteader community in the early 1900s. The school which also served as the church was very near the shore of this large, year-round alkali slough. The Perry Leach family arrived in 1906 and built their homestead near the shore of the lake. Their son, Gordon planted an orchard here which thrived and was known throughout the district. Gordon and his wife, Ella, had 8 boys, four of whom died very young. Our kids were always drawn to the plain wooden crosses in the Donavon Cemetary which simply read, Baby Leach.
