COL POLENTA – GALLERIE E TRINCEE DELLA PRIMA GUERRA MONDIALE
Il Col Polenta, mt. 200 c.a. di altitudine s.l.m. quindi una cinquantina di metri al di sopra del livello del piano di campagna circostante, fa parte dell’arco di colline che inizia dal colle dell’Abbazia di Santa Bona e con direzione prima Nord e poi Nord-Est contorna il centro abitato di Vidor e arriva fino alla Frazione di Colbertaldo.
A metà circa di questo arco c’è il Col Polenta, così chiamato per la sua forma che assomiglia a quella della polenta quando versata sul tagliere. Una volta era privo di alberature e adesso vi sono vari alberi e cipressi.
Nella parte più a Nord di questo colle durante la prima guerra Mondiale vi era un accampamento di soldati Austro-Ungarici e nel periodo in cui era presente a Vidor la 35^ Divisione di Fanteria era chiamato “BESTERZE LAGHER”, dal nome di una cittadina Rumena che all’epoca era sotto l’Ungheria e quindi inglobata nell’Impero Austro-Ungarico. La presenza di posizioni Austro-Ungariche su questo colle è indicata da mappe dell’epoca della Grande Guerra e sulla sommità della collina stessa sono ancora visibili alcune buche di granate che gli italiani sparavano dal Montello. Inoltre vi sono un paio di gallerie utilizzate come rivovero delle truppe Austro-Ungariche.
COL POLENTA - GALLERIES AND TRENCHES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
Col Polenta, about 200 m above the see then fifty meters above the floor level of the surrounding countryside, is part of the arc of hills which starts from the hill of the Abbey of Santa Bona and direction first and then North Northeast surrounds the town of Vidor and reaches the fraction Colbertaldo.
About the middle of this arc is the Col Polenta, so named for its shape that resembles the polenta (cornmeal mush) when poured on cutting board. Once was devoid of trees and now there are various trees and cypresses.
In the far north of this hill during the First World War there was a camp of Austro-Hungarians soldiers and in the period in which it was present in Vidor the 35th Infantry Division was called "BESTERZE lagher", named after a town in Romanian who at the time was under Hungary and then incorporated in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The presence of the Austro-Hungarian positions on this hill is indicated by maps of the period of the Great War, and the hilltop still has some holes of grenades that Italians shooting from Montello. Also there are a couple of tunnels used as rivovero Austro-Hungarian troops.
