Geocache Description:

This traditional cache is only accessible from the trail, or from the river, but add 3 points (or more!) to the Terrain rating if you decide to pull the canoe over for this cache! There is no access (aka no creative bushwacking) from East River Road. The 'road' that appears to cross the rail trail near this cache (visible on Google maps, geocaching app, etc) is not an access point and is well marked as private.

Congrats to Joe.Small, DeadlyRose and hikerT for the FTF!

I have fond memories of my father (Danger Dave) bringing me here for weekend bike rides as a small child, as it wasn't far from our home. Danger Dave (nicknamed for various reasons involving power tools and a pair of Birkenstocks) is a man well versed in the history and nature of the Grand River. This was always one of our favorite spots to cool off and grab a drink. At this location you will find a long abandoned cattle trough that was fed from an underground stream and pumped up the embankment by a hydraulic ram pump. The pump, much to its credit, still functioned up until sometime in the last 20 years, as I was old enough to remember the subtle but telltale sound of the pressurized cylinder sending water forward to the trough. Please replace the cache exactly as found, which means pay attention to how you attained it. Tools are NOT required to retrieve the cache, power or otherwise. Please BYOP.
