Geocache Description:

Our forefathers "trekked" (moved) away from the Cape Colony with wagons similar to this one and discovered a fertile area. Some of them settled here.

The farmers planted tobacco and made very good quality washing soap (Boerseep) in this area. The main ingredients for soap making was the lye, extracted from the ash bush succulent plant which still grows here and the fat of sheep. 1000 Whips made from the skins of Hippo's were made annually and sold. These were commodities the people traded with back then. They decorated their wagons with Ostrich feathers when the goods were transported to Mosselbay harbour for trading purposes The land owners granted permission to place the cache here.
