Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates are NOT the final location of this cache. I was talking to a friend, a man with a Masters Degree in Communication, the other day and the subject of how animals communicate with each other came up. We picked some of the common animals in the area and both decided that they all speak a language common to that spieces. We talked about how they either grunt or bellow. Whinney or purr. Quack or chirp. The longest and most interesting conversation was on the bee and the relationship to human communication techniques. Humans dance, sing and use verbal and non verbal communication techniques. Since bees are abundant this time of year, it got us to thinking and wondering how it is that bees all seem to go separate directions, but all converge on a central area of food. They must have a language that can be deciphered. I asked my friend and this was his response. "The bee communicates in two ways. Dance and buzzing. Their dance tells the direction of food in a straight line, much like you geocachers using latitude and longitude. It also reveals how far away the food is by dancing faster. Much like you speeding up when you know where the cache is located. The length of the buzz, while dancing, increases as the distance to the food source increases. I think this is close to your joyful celebrations? Bees seem to be able to communicate about food up to 2 kilometers away! Or was it 2 miles? I don't remember. Hope this explains it." Confused I asked for further help with the explanation of how buzzing explains where food is located. This is how he explained it. "Bees and humans share a very similar form of coding their buzzes and speech. Through my many years of studying at The National Academy of Design, I honed my skills in a multitude of communication styles. My senior thesis was on the common language of bees and humans. I was home the summer prior and solved the communication barrier! Below is the problem that I submitted." Bee "A" takes off from N 34 34.315, W 083 59.128. The bee is gone for approximately 8 minutes to travel to a location of flowers and then fly back to the hive at the above coordinates. When he arrives he tells Bee "B" the location of the flowers using their common language. I recorded the message and translated it like this: -. / ...-- ....- / ...-- ...-- .-.-.- ...-- .---- ..--- --..-- / .-- / ----- ---.. ...-- / ..... ---.. .-.-.- .---- ..--- ..--- Once the message is recieved, both Bee "A" and "B" take off to the location. After reaching the final location, Bee "A" tells "B" to STAY HERE,so he can return to the hive and bring the rest of the hive. Bee "B" agrees and is still waiting there since, over watching the large clover patch. "So what do you think, my friend asked?" WOW! I proclaimed, I think I will need the assistance of my geo friends for this one. We finished the day talking about looking for obvious clues drilled into trees while geocaching, canoe trips down the river, and CITO events! Quick I need your help!
