"Quem conseguir tirar esta espada da pedra e da bigorna é por direito o rei de toda a Inglaterra", dizia a espada que todos ambicionavam arrecadar.
Artur, um miúdo inteligente, que desconhecia a lenda da espada e da pedra, trabalhava como cavalariço num castelo, e sonhava tornar-se cavaleiro. Todavia, o Mago Merlin que vivia na floresta, conhecia o futuro e sabia que Artur viria a ser rei. Dessa forma, mudou-se para uma torre do castelo juntamente com seu fiel assistente, a coruja Arquimedes, e incumbiu-se da missão de dar uma formação escolar ao jovem. Muito confuso, Merlin começou a falar de coisas e pessoas que ainda não existiam. As suas melhores aulas foram quando transformou Artur em diferentes animais, como um esquilo ou um peixe. Artur torna-se escudeiro de seu meio-irmão Kay, mas Merlin irrita-se e viaja para as Bermudas, no século XX. Entretanto, em Londres decorria um torneio para atribuir o novo rei à Grã-Bretanha, no qual Kay tencionava participar. Mas o que aconteceu surpreendeu tudo e todos naquela manhã de Ano Novo...
O PT Rei Artur foi um PowerTrail circular, de dificuldade média-fácil, de cerca de 5km de extensão, que existiu de março de 2015 a março de 2021.
O objetivo deste PT era mostrar o agradável trilho da Mata Nacional da Machada que circunda a área do Centro de Comunicações da NATO, e que permite aos visitantes uma caminhada tranquila, enquanto disfrutam do envolvimento da fauna e flora da Mata. A sugestão da visita a este trilho mantém-se, com a certeza de que será um excelente plano em família.
A Mata Nacional da Machada é habitada por diversas espécies como a raposa, o saca-rabos, a gineta, o coelho bravo, e ainda, a perdiz, a rola-comum, o pombo-bravo, o abelheruco, o gaio e o pardal comum. Junto à lagoa, pode também encontrar-se vários exemplares de pato-real.
Esta Mata é constituída maioritariamente por povoamentos de pinheiro bravo e sobreiro, existindo ainda núcleos de eucaliptos, pinheiro manso, salgueiros e acácias.
Nos matos do subcoberto, encontram-se por toda a Mata sargaço, aroeira, lentisco, roselha pequena, rosmaninho, carvalhiça, esteva, murta, medronheiro, espargueira e trovisco.

Arthur, a smart kid who did not know the legend of the sword and the stone, worked as a groom in a castle and dreamed of becoming a knight. However, Merlin the Magician who lived in the forest, knew the future and knew that Arthur would be king. Thus, he moved to a castle tower along with his faithful assistant, Archimedes the owl, and took the mission of providing an education to the youngster. Very confusingly, Merlin started talking about stuff and people that did not exist by the time. His best classes were when he transformed Arthur in different animals, like a squirrel or a fish. Arthur becomes the squire of his half-brother Kay, but Merlin chafes and travels to Bermuda, in the twentieth century. However, in London stemmed a tournament to assign the new king of England, in which Kay intended to enter. But what happened surprised everyone in that New Year morning...
The King Arthur PT was a circular PowerTrail, classified as medium-easy difficulty, with about 5km long, that existed from march 2015 and march 2021.
The aim was to show this nice trail in Mata Nacional da Machada that surrounds the area of the NATO Communications Center, and allows visitors a quiet walk, while they can enjoy the involvement of Machada's flora and fauna.
The Mata Nacional da Machada is home to many species such as foxes, mongooses, genet, wild rabbits, and still, the partridge, the European turtle dove, the stock dove, the bee-eater, the jay and the house sparrow. Close to the lake, you can also find mallards.
This forest consists mainly of stands of pine and cork oak, as well as some cores of eucalyptus, stone pines, willows and acacias.
In the forests of undergrowth, are all over the forest seaweed, mastic, small roselha, rosemary, gall oak, rock rose, myrtle, arbutus, espargueira and spurge flax.
