Geocache Description:

After the founding of the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown, VA in 1607, Captain John Smith spent much of 1607-1609 exploring the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Although it is unlikely he paddled up to this geocache, you can see the Powhatan Creek a couple hundred yards away which we do know he explored.

This geocache is at the James City County Marina (formerly the Eco Dicovery Park). You will enjoy the view of boats, and kayaks and possibly paddleboards and bicycles when you are near the site of this geocache.

If you look up, you may see eagles, hawks, turkey vultures and cormorants flying overhead, and if you are very fortunate you might even see Nick, the Great Blue Heron in the nearby marshland.

And look for a sign commemorating the John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail, celebrating his many explorations of America's largest bay. http://www.nps.gov/cajo/index.htm

This geocache is an approximately 3x4 inch lock top plastic container.
