Geocache Description:

This is my first hide, enjoy!

When visiting friends in Riverhead, we explored some of the new roads created with the new housing.

This is the Wautaiti Stream which flows through a Council Reserve (6 hecares), plunging over a rocky ledge, forming a small waterfall.

There was a bridge that was washed away in the January 2023 storms.

Until the bridge is replaced to see the waterfall see waypoints.

They will take you to the lower level of the waterfall.

It maybe overgrown, but two metal posts with yellow tops mark the trail down to the waterfalls base.

At the cache is a sign about some of the different mills that used to be located around Riverhead:
- Timber Sawmill (c.1840's-1865)
- Flour mill (1855-1890's)
- Paper mill (1899-1923)

Click here to learn more about the mills.
