Gulf of Corinth - Marathias - Panagia Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Miamelis: I'm archiving this cache because the location of the original hide has changed making it very hard to find (and once I found snakeskin there so might not be the safest spot anymore either) :D

I'm planning on replacing it with an Earth Cache, which is better because the original cache was located on private church ground, and the church acts quite difficult there specifically, but I think that the place should still be visited as it it really beautiful.

Many thanks to everyone who came until here to find this cache!

ENGLISH

The chapel of Panagia (the Virgin) was built in 1905 on a plot next to the sea. It was built here to attract passing ships who might donate money to the church. For many years there was a cemetery located next to the chapel, but ca. 30-40 years ago they decided to move it to a higher situated site at the other side of the village.

Today the church is being used mostly for marriages and baptisms, as well as for the celebration of Panagia, on August 15.
