It's a Zoo Out Here - Animal Den 5 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Geocaching HQ Admin: The City of Portland has a new geocaching policy for geocaches placed on Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) property. The policy is intended to support the growing recreational activity of geocaching while also ensuring it does not negatively impact parks, properties, assets, staff or the public.

PP&R welcomes geocaches in many of its parks and properties. However, the property where this geocache is located is one that does not allow geocaches according to the new policy.

There are many reasons a park may not allow geocaches, based on the determination of the staff who manage each particular site. These reasons can include that the property’s primary focus is on habitat values, the potential conflicts with other park users, among other factors. Because this geocache is in a park that does not allow them, it been archived. As the geocache owner, you are expected to retrieve the geocache container and any associated physical stages within 2 weeks. After January 9, 2016, your geocache may be removed by parks’ staff or other designated persons.

For questions about this policy, please contact Bryan Aptekar, Portland Parks & Recreation, bryan.aptekar@portlandoregon.gov.

Geocache Description:

Your looking for another animal cage...

You will be looking for a plastic sandwich box with small log book and pencil. Yes, a real operating pen and a small amount of swag. Pay attention to the parking signs. And keep a hold on the kids, most of the traffic is pretty slow but there is always a few. Push the frog to open.

zooGrumpyYou will not have to walk far from parking on the street and  the walk is down to the cache with a slight grade but stead to the bottom then off trail for 30' to a fair size tree. Here is the secrete to success. Once your at the bottom of the trail and standing their or a little closer to the information board on the north side of the trail send in the short ones. These caches are really for the kids and has a cage to keep the critter in. There is a fence on the south that keeps them coralled on that side, east side is open range but the west is up a steep hill all should lead to some fun for the kids. There are lots of people walking just keep alert to the trafic with kids. Lots of trees and the hill to the west made for a bouncy signal, so keep it to the flat lands and you'll do well.

The trails can be a little muddy raining so a pair of soggy park boots are a good idea. The terrain has a little pitch so it will have a 2 1/2 rating for pitch.

Happy caching.
