Geocache Description:

Glad All Over #4: Who put the ball in the Scousers' net?

This cache is the fourth in an occasional series of Crystal Palace Football Club related caches. Partly they are to celebrate events or individuals and also try to make up for the limited pre-match caching opportunities!

#4 in the series, a magnetic tube, was set on Saturday 9th May 2015 (after a narrow defeat to Manchester United) to celebrate the achievements of Palace's current manager: Alan Pardew.

Pardew's playing career started Whyteleafe in 1980. he went on to make 185 non-league appearance for Whyteleafe, Epson & Ewell, Corinthian Casuals, Dulwich Hamlet and Yeovil Town. In 1987, he signed for Crystal Palace for a fee of £7,500.

Though he helped Palace win promotion to the First Division after beating Blackburn in the playoffs in 1989 and featuring in the Zenith Data System final victory over Everton in 1991, his real claim to fame is being the only player ever to score a FA Cup semi-final winner for Palace (yet!!!) when he scored the extra-time winner in a 4-3 victory over Liverpool in 1990. This led to the chant "Who put the ball in the Scousers' net? Super, Super Al; Super, Super Al; Super, Super Al; Super Alan Pardew".

Alan left Palace in November 1991, playing for Charlton, Spurs (on loan) and Barnet. His management career began at reading in 1998. This was followed by spells at West Ham, Charlton, Southampton and Newcastle until he was appointed as successor to Neil Warnock at Palace on 2/1/15.

Hopefully, Pardew can also lead Palace to success.

When logging your find electronically, it would be interesting to share your favourite football chants. I'd also like to see who's brave enough to try to find it on match days - remember that's when it was placed.

CONGRATULATIONS - FTF Boer&Brit
