In SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, made in 1998, Director Steven Spielberg gives us the most realistic vision yet on what it must have been like on the shores of World War II Normandy during the allied invasion on D-Day. This scene alone stands out as a masterpiece of sight, sound and editing. Seeing it in the movies literally had you ducking as you heard the bullets whizz over your head. And that is just the setting for the story in the film ahead! Tom Hanks plays a reluctant Army captain assigned to take his squad of seven men into France, behind enemy lines, to locate a private whose three brothers have been killed in combat. The mission is to give this private a ticket home. A great cast of character actors make up the squad with Matt Damon as Private Ryan. Oscars for this film included Best director, Cinematography and editing.
