Geocache Description:

Remember when magic and delight were just around the corner? The Steam Trains at Tilden Park will take you there! You can find this cache without visiting the Steam Trains, but if you want to double your fun, take a ride on the train, then take a short hike with your kids -- or your inner kid -- to this cache! (Note: this is not a park and grab at the Trains. It is approximately 0.6 miles from the Trains parking lot.)

This cache was inspired by a similar cache made by WV Tim. (You can check out his super caches on Youtube.) At the Steam Trains, park at the upper lot and head out the "Volmer Peak Trail." When the trail splits, head upward (to the right.) The cache is half a mile down the trail, which features gorgeous views of the Bay. The cache is placed on a tree in a meadow about 30 paces from the trail; there's no need to bushwhack through dense plants or underbrush, but watch for thistles in the meadow and a bit of poison oak near the tree. Once you arrive at the cache, you'll need to solve a puzzle to open the combination lock and get to the log. The first number of the combination is the number of purple bricks. Don't count the window frames. The second number of the combination is the number of green bricks. Don't count the vine. The third number of the combination is the number of windows. Don't count the window in the door. Multiple panes count as one window. Be careful when you open the cache: the log will fall out, as soon as the door opens. We recommend that you hold your hand under the door to catch the log. Tilden Park is closed daily from 10 pm to 5 am. Congratulations to JeremiahSJohnson for FTF!
