Geocache Description:

Moose are normally found off the beaten path and not too far from water.  So, this cache will not have easy access on or off of I-795 and there will be water fairly close by.  Please do not remove the log container from the host.  Since the Alaska Moose is the largest of the moose subspecies, this host is also the largest of the series.   The FTF will be the first to see and receive our personal Pathtag.

Please DO NOT walk through anyone's yard or private property to reach this cache. You will need to walk along the road until you get close to GZ. Also, please do not park along the bridge. I have added suggested parking coordinates. I would not recommend this cache for children. If you have them with you, please be careful.

I have seen several moose in the wild in Colorado, Wyoming and Maine.  I have not yet been to Alaska, but when I go, seeing a giant, Alaska Moose will be a priority.

The Alaska Moose (or giant moose) is the largest subspecies of moose.  Alaska moose live in the forests throughout most of Alaska and the Western Yukon.  The largest one recorded was one in the Western Yukon that weighed 1,800 pounds and was over 7.5 feet tall at the shoulder. Moose are often found near lakes, ponds, streams or swamps.  The water provides them a place to cool off, fight off biting insects, and vegetation that they like to eat.  Moose are often found in these bodies of water and they even go under to eat vegetation along the bottom.
