Geocache Description:

Placed this Geocache here to remember the 1972 Sunshine Miner Memorial. Great place to feed chipmuncks and view the are and learn about some local History

This location is a Historical location,
On May 2, 1972, one hundred and seventy-three men began work at 7:00 a.m. at the Sunshine silver mine, about 8 miles east of Kellogg, Shoshone County, Idaho.Shortly after lunch, about 11:40 a.m., two electricians stepped out of the electric shop on the 3700 level, smelled smoke, and shouted a warning. There, the smoke was very heavy, but they couldn't tell where it was coming from. The entire mine filled with smoke and men were being hoisted out, most of the men died in this fire disaster. So if you are ever around on May 2nd, stop by the statue and join in on the rememberance of these men and their families!
