<p>Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. The District is a leader in its field providing the community with top quality parks and recreational opportunities while being responsible stewards of all our resources. The District’s contributions to the personal lives of Johnson County’s citizens have earned the District local appreciation and national acclaim. Each year the District records more than 7 million park visitors and over 2 million recreation participations in over 4,000 programs. Their slogan is “What do YOU do for fun? If you are reading this, one answer is probably Geocaching. The District is planning many special activities throughout the year. With that in mind, and with the District’s approval we bring you 60 JCPRD caches, one for each of their 60 years. This series highlights some of the District’s specialized departments and programs with 15 different caches listed below. Most of these areas are within the Safety and Outdoor Education and the Recreation Divisions and may not be as widely known as the Parks and Golf Course Division. Each specialty area has a cache with a code in it. Collect all 15 and you will have the coordinates to this series final. These caches are hidden in a variety of locations and not all will be on District land. Enjoy these gems of the county and happy caching, but most of all have FUN!</p>
<p>This cache is for the newest exciting venture for JCPRD, the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center. In 2011 the Johnson County government bought the old King Louie bowling center. This architectural icon will now be carefully preserved and given new life as the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center (JCAHC). The JCAHC will become the new home for the Johnson County Museum, which will be transitioned into the JCPRD organization. Another part of the project will include new space for expanded offerings from JCPRD and Theatre in the Park. Many different types of arts classes and cultural learning opportunities are planned for the space. There will also be a Community Gathering Space for use by the public and community groups. The Johnson County Election Office will also have space in the JCAHC for advance voting and election worker training. This cache is hopefully located away from the construction when it begins but may have to be relocated at some point. You can park on the east side of the street near GZ. You will be looking for a bison tube in a nook, or is it a cranny? Well construction has started and taken out the cache. It is know a bison tube in a nearby tree. The height could be an issue so bring someone tall with you for this temporary location. Enjoy this cache while you prepare to enjoy the new Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center.</p>
