Geocache Description:

Allansford is at the western end of the Great Ocean Road, perhaps the most iconic road in Australia. It is only 10 minutes travel time from Warrnambool and 45 minutes from the 12 Apostles and home to a nationally and internationally awarded cheese maker.

People traveling along the Great Ocean Road or living adjacent to grassland in small towns and on the edge of larger urban areas often do not consider the risk they face from bushfire and grassfire over the summer period.

Grassfires can be just as dangerous as bushfires. They can start and spread rapidly, travelling at speeds of up to 25 km per hour (doubling in speed with ever 10 degrees of upslope), quickly threatening lives and property.

To assess the level of bushfire risk during the fire danger period, it is important to understand the Fire Danger Rating. The rating gives an indication of the expected fire behaviour on a given day and can be used as a guide for the actions you will take on that day. The higher the rating, the more dangerous the conditions and the greater the difficulty in putting a fire out.

The Fire Danger Rating is area specific so it is important to know the Fire Weather District. This can be found at www.cfa.vic.gov.au or by calling the Victorian Bushfire Information line on 1800 240 667. In Allansford, you are in the South West Fire Weather District.

Fire Danger Rating signs are positioned along roadways to help keep you informed. Use this information to make informed decisions on your actions for the day’s activities.

You are looking for a magnetic Bison tube cache. When replacing the log, place it in cap first then slide case over.

NOTE: Log is waterproof paper. Don't worry if it is wet, just wipe the water off and sign it with a ball-point pen.

Micro Log Hint: Roll up the paper log and place into lid, then slide the body of the tube over the log and push onto lid. Then the log will come out with the lid when next opened.
