Our event will be held Sunday August 2nd, between 2pm and 4pm in Hockley Woods which at 200 acres is the largest ancient wild woodland in Essex. The woods boasts many different trees such as oak, sweet chestnut, birch, hornbeam, willow, hazel and ash. There are many different plants in the wood that will only grow on undisturbed soils of ancient woods, such as the wild service tree, wood anemone, wood spurge and cow-wheat. The woods were once a group of woods each in separate ownership and divided by earth banks. Some of these earthworks date back to Saxon times, whereas others follow medieval parish boundaries.
It has been arranged that during the event the Wild Wood Cafe will be on site with hot and cold drinks, as well as other refreshments, however there is no obligation to purchase refreshments from them to attend the event.
The UK Mega Essex Team have been very busy in the area
- thank you folks
so there may be some new and rather challenging caches hidden in the woods!
We really look forward to seeing you and being able to share with you our exciting plans for your 2016 UK Mega event
Best wishes and safe & happy caching from The North Wales 2016 UK Mega Team.
