Geocache Description:

Abandoned bridge you could drive past and never notice it's there; hidden in plain view. Beware of snakes, rebar sticking out and barbed wire.

How important are bridges, and what does it take to keep them safe and usable? How many bridges do you count on the way home? You couldn't get home without them! Check out what can happen to a bridge if it stops being maintained... in just a few years time, like this one, bridges start to fall apart and crumble into disrepair. This geocache series is about bridges that have been orphaned/abandoned and pretty much forgotten by public's perception. Many of these bridges have an interesting history to tell. Highways have been changed and moved and realigned and sometimes like this, bridges have been left standing behind. Look beside of abandoned bridge you'll see wooden pilings in the bank next to it where Leavenworth, Topeka and Southwestern railroad used to cross Fish Pond Creek, probably a wooden bridge which has long since rotted away.
