This cache has been archived.

Backwoods Reviewer: The listing guidelines for event caches say that "After an event has passed, the listing is archived by the cache owner." Since the event date was more than four weeks ago, I'm archiving the listing. Thank you to the owner for organizing this event!

Geocache Description:

You're invited to the kickoff of our Third Geocaching Trail - Mystery Caches of Berkeley County (MCBC), sponsored by the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). We have partnered with WVTim to place this very unique Geotrail. Most of the caches are “gadget” caches, typically easy to find, but where the cacher will have to do “something” to access the log.

This EVENT will kickoff at The Roundhouse at 100 E Liberty Street*, Martinsburg, WV. The event will start at 1:00 pm and will end at 1:45 pm. There will be time for visiting, bug trading, photos and more. Around 1:45 the cache sites will go active (paper coordinates will be available in case we have a technical meltdown!). At 1:30 door prizes will be announced. There is parking on site. There are no restrooms on site, but there is one very near-by. If you are a railroad or architecture buff, feel free to come a little early for tours of the Roundhouse.

(*from the light on N. Queen Street, then east on Pennsylvania Ave, then right on Hooge St, then Right on Liberty St.)

This trail is comprised of 15 cache sites of which you have to find 13.  Each site has a code word that you have to bring back on the geocaching passport card which will be available at the kick off.   Passport  cards can be picked up at the I-81 rest stops or at the Visitors Center downtown. Cards are now available.  Bring your own pen. Permission has been granted for all sites.

Once these cards are turned in to the CVB, and verified, and you fill out a very short information card, you will receive a trackable geocoin (available to the first 450 finders-one per team).

The Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention and Visitors Bureau is located at 126 East Race Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401. Their phone number is (304-264-8801). Open 7 days a week; 9am – 5 pm weekdays and 9:00-4:00 weekends. Please arrive in enough time prior to closing. For more information on visiting Martinsburg and surrounding areas, including special geocacher/CVB hotel rates, visit Martinsburg Visitor's Center.

Coins will NOT be mailed out. Please refer to the passport for complete validation instructions. We request that all family units, having more than one Geocaching.com caching account, accept one (1) MCBC coin for the trail. This enables us to spread the most smiles to those who visit Mystery Caches of Berkeley County Geotrail. We appreciate your cooperation and hope that you enjoy the trail.

Each cache is very different and sometimes very challenging. We hope to make your time here in our beautiful county one you won’t soon forget. You will feel certainly feel a sense of accomplishment when you earn this coin.

Geocachers have awarded the caches in Berkeley County over 14000 favorite votes, making Berkeley County one of the best caching counties in the country. Geocaching HQ recently called WVTim one of the top three geocacher creators in the WORLD. These caches will showcase many of his "gadget" caches. We hope you plan a caching trip here soon. Please let us know if we can do anything to help make your visit more enjoyable.
