Great Bridge for fishing from while having a weenie roast/cook-out! lots of shady trees and a nice cool breeze from the river in the summer. When Lake Perry came in new higher bridges and other highway alignments were made, leaving this bridge closed to vehicle traffic today. You will have to reach up over head but you won't have to do any climbing.
Back in the mid-seventies high school kids used to jump off the bridge into the river for fun (don't do it, its illegal!) Some of the more adventurous would climb up the span and jump from the very top of the bridge into the river. Not to worry! You can enjoy the bridge without climbing up the beams that is not where geocache is hidden. Like a lot of features around Valley Falls, bridge has interesting history to tell: Next to the bridge on the bank of the river is the remains of another structure, which may be part of an older bridge washed out by one of the many floods that plagued this region. Stories have been told that just north was a hydroelectric dam run by a local cooperative, which is long since vanished. Up river and around the bend towards the North end of town was where steam locomotive crashed into the river and had to be fished out, nearby the multi-function watermill. Artifacts from the demolished mill are found in city park and in town campsite, with more information at the Historical Society Museum on Broadway Street.
