Geocache Description:

This cache is a tribute to our sweet dog, Pishkot, who gave us almost 18 years of joy.  The day after she crossed over the rainbow bridge, the family took a long hike in the park visiting areas we had not yet been to.  We came across this overlook and felt it was so beautiful and peaceful that we wanted to share it.  Take some time to relax here and enjoy the surroundings.  This is my first hide, I hope you find the view worth visiting.

Bring your own pen.

To hike to this cache you have some options.

Regardless of where you park or enter from, the cache is only available dawn to dusk.

If you Park in the lot, walk back to the drive and begin on the blue trail (boundary trail). You will take the blue trail to the white trail. Along the blue trail you will pass a stretching station that is part of a larger Eagle project in the park. On the White trail you will be going down toward the river.  You will see more Eagle project work as you travel the white trail in terms of signage, a bench, and some trail maintenance.  Just before the river, you will have a choice. Cross the Little Gunpowder River on foot (if you are prepared to do so), or take the alternate trail to the left which will take you out to the road. Walk .2 miles up the road to re-enter the park. If you park at the alternate parking, it will only be .1 of a mile (South) on the road to the trail. Trees along the road will be marked with blazes. In either case, you can bypass the hiker entrance and take the (unmarked) horse entrance a few feet farther down for easier access.

Once on the Baltimore County side of the park whether by stream crossing or bridge crossing, you will be following the red (Black Forest) trail to the cache.  This area of the park is not as well traveled as the Harford County side of the park. The red trail is difficult to follow at times. There may be downed trees and many of the blazes are faint.

A DOUBLE HUGE shout-out to Miami Mike for spending hours over multiple days providing maintenance to the left and right side of the Black Forest Loop in December 2018. You will have a MUCH easier hike than before. THANK YOU MIAMI MIKE!

The cache is a small lock-n-lock container.  It should not be difficult to find once you arrive at GZ.

While there is no hunting within the State Park, the trail borders a private residence that has a gate and a deer blind.  It appears that the neighboring property is not growing corn, only weeds. It does not seem likely that they are using the blind for hunting on their property at this time. Wear the appropriate attire at your discretion.
