After five or six years of geocaching, it's about time that I attempt to organise an event. So here it is! Welcome to toy hunters' first event - Bohemian BBQ! Thanks to AngelG27 for suggesting the name! Winter is fast approaching and we are under pressure, so why not celebrate the last day of autumn with a BBQ by breaking free and getting together with fellow geocachers in the magic surroundings of Googong Dam. This event is also a perfect excuse to complete the nearby Queen powertrail (hence the name Bohemian BBQ, obviously!) and the other caches around Googong Dam after the event.
The event will start at 11am and will officially finish at 12pm. At the moment, the plan is that it will be held at the BBQ area at the posted coordinates. As the organisers, we'll be there before 11am to make sure that we can occupy the BBQ area. If we find this shelter occupied on the day - the show must go on! We will try to find another and will post new coordinates on the cache page if this occurs, so make sure to look at your smartphones for any updates. We will tie red, white & blue balloons to the BBQ shelter so cachers will know they are in the correct area. There is plenty of parking right near the BBQ area and it will be easy to transport your belongings to and from your car.
Please bring some snacks to share and your own drinks (we will provide some disposable cups). We will also provide some sausage sandwiches for the attendees, but if you would like anything more substantial for lunch, please bring your own. Please put in your will attends as soon as possible, so that we have rough numbers on how many sausages we should be purchasing.
It is important that you sign the logbook for the event, because like regular geocaching, you must sign it in order to claim a find on this event. Signing the logbook is also important because at 11:30am we will be having a raffle to determine FTF honours for the event and there will be a small prize for the honour.
Trackables are all welcome, so feel free to drop them into the event. Geocoin collections are also welcome for showing off, so feel free to bring along your booklets. Because 12pm is the official ending time for the event, the trackables must be removed from the event site at this time. The event cache page will be available for exactly one month from the event date for people to log their find and upload photos (we’ll take a group photo on the day).
People are welcome to stay at the BBQ area after 12pm if they would like to continue socialising but as said earlier, it is the perfect opportunity to spend the afternoon on the Queen powertrail and finding other caches around Googong Dam.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, feel free to email me via the email address on my geocaching profile page. I hope to see lots of you there and I hope you have fun!
