Geocache Description:


Kett’s Heights is one of Norwich’s best-kept secrets. It is steeply wooded and contains the remains of a medieval chapel, 19th century garden terraces and one of the three strategic viewpoints overlooking Norwich. It is from where Robert Kett and his 10,000 followers besieged the city in 1549. You are looking for a medium container. Congratulations to Queenofspices for FTF!! You can park halfway up Kett's Hill but be careful as some are permit holders only!! The entrance to Kett's Heights is halfway up Kett's Hill opposite a traffic island, It has 2 black gates, Well worth the climb for the fine views of the city. Centred on the ruins of St Michael's Chapel, the abandoned garden has been turned into a wildlife area by volunteers. Many common wild flowers nave been introduced to complement Columbine and Canadian Golden-rod (another popular Victorian garden plant!). Alexanders is plentiful here, first recorded in Norwich in 1780, introduced in Britain as a pot herb, a celery scented plant with shiny leaves and yellow/green flowers. Scrub birds such as Willow Warbler and Blackcap can be seen or heard. Butterflies such as Peacock, small Tortoiseshell, Meadow Brown and Small Skipper are attracted by the wild flowers. When I'm out caching I carry a supply of replacement log sheets so that I can help out the cache owner by carrying out any maintenance that's required.
