The ruins of the Church on the Dunlade Road, just outside Greysteel, reportedly lie on a former monastic site dating back to the 7th century. Experts would indicate the ruins you see there now are from the 12th century due to the design of the Church and the small and narrow lancet windows. The structure is positioned to overlook the Foyle a few miles away and the building is surrounded by a walled graveyard with both ancient and contemporary headstones. A striking depiction of Jesus on the cross is positioned near the entrance and looks out across the valley. Two gable walls still stand to give an idea of the proportions of the building but the side walls are almost gone and what is left is fighting a constant battle with vegetation.
The cache is a micro and is concealed outside the confines of the Church. You do not have to enter the gate to find it. There is parking for at least one vehicle beside the cache location.
