Geocache Description:

I do love history. This is one of my Non-Railroad based history caches based local history. This is a mult-cache, read the sign at the first stage, then come up with the answer for the cache final

At the first waypoint you will learn that Salem has a history of moving home and buildings. The Cache Owner lives in the Grant Neighborhood. When he first moved to here, a bunch of homes were moved to make way for the Archive Building. Some now reside at Riverfront Park, others off of Silverton Road. Then the State wanted to build the North Mall Building. This again required moving homes which effected the cache owners neighborhood again.

But if you read this history sign, you will quickly figure out Salem has a rich history of moving not just homes but large buildings. This is much better then destruction of historic buildings, which Salem has done as well, such as the original City Hall, and the original Salem High School which was right by where the first waypoint is located.

By reading this sign you will learn about 3 buildings that were sames and even re-purposed, while at the same time figuring out where the final cache is located, with a little math, which is near where one of the buildings mentioned, and only a few blocks from the first waypoint.

The Cache Final is located at N44 56.ABC W123 01.DEF

A) Salem High School was demolished in what year? A = _ _ _ _ - 1949

B) Salem City Hall was built in 189X and Demolished in 197Y. B = X-Y-1

C) What year did the second capitol Building Burn down? C= _ _ _ _ - 1928

D) Gatke Hall was the original Post Office located on Church Street, but was moved to State Street to be a part of Willamette University. What year was it moved? D= _ _ _ _ -1930

E) Jason Lee built his home near his lumber mill on Mill Creek, but is now located at the Willamette Heritage Center for visitors to tour. What year did it eventually move to the Heritage Center, then better known as a part of the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill? E= 19_5

F) Probably one of the larger moves involves the First Presbyterian Church. Although not a long move, it was/is a large building. It basically moved Katty-corner across Chemeketa and Winter streets to make way for new state building on the capitol mall. What year did it move? F= _ _ _ _ - 1956

Good luck.
