In earle 1950 John Clarr purchased "The Hitching Post" , a gas station and curio shop on Route 66 about 3 miles east of Moriarty,NM.
He moved his family from Ohio, where he had been a Carnival Midway worker. and using those skills he added a variety of games of chance, a small zoo which included bobcats, owls, a Coyote and other creatures. and last but not least his " DEN OF DEATH ". A Snake Pit. and at the bottom of the pit was a sign inviting travelers to drop some coins in and their wishes would come true.
