Ya había oído yo hablar de que existía un Pinsapo (o Pinzapo) en La Pedriza y nunca lo había visto.
Tan lejos de su medio natural, que es la lluviosa Sierra de Grazalema en la provincia de Cádiz, o la Sierra de las Nieves en Málaga, (sitios que os recomiendo 100% si no los conocéis), es difícil que haya pinsapos y los pocos que existen seguramente provengan de plantaciones.
Hay un pinsapo enorme en medio de la rotonda de acceso a La Granja (Segovia), que nos da idea del porte que puede llegar a tener, (hasta 30 metros).
Dicen del pinsapo (ABIES PINSAPO) que es el abeto por excelencia por su raíz latina. Yo no sé si es más abeto que pino o más pino que abeto, pero a mí es el que más me gusta, por su forma, sus curiosas ramas que van creciendo de 3 en tres en los extremos de las mismas, y sus acículas cortas, fuertes y gruesas preparadas para resistir cualquier contingencia de frío, hielo, viento, lluvia o nieve.
Y ahí está el Pinsapo de la Pedriza, valiente, como el héroe del cómic casi homónimo, (El Príncipe Valiente), erguido, como sus hermanos, con su imponente porte en medio de un bosquecillo de arizónicas replantadas, descollando por arriba, y ganándole el pulso a todas ellas, en la búsqueda de la luz y los rayos del Sol.
Se sabe que el pinsapo es una especie monoica, que en botánica significa que ambos sexos se presentan en el mismo pie del árbol. Se pueden apreciar claramente en las fotos los conos femeninos que son pardo-verdosos, alargados, aislados y erguidos hacia arriba en las ramas superiores. Los conos masculinos, sin embargo, son rojos o púrpura, más pequeños y aparecen agrupados en los extremos de las ramillas.
EL CACHÉ
Para llegar al caché hay que tomar la pista que va desde el aparcamiento de MACHACADERA en el punto que se indica como waypoint adicional.
Una corta subida y un agradable paseo a orillas del Manzanares, pasando por la Charca Verde, os llevará a sus inmediaciones.
Es muy recomendable abandonar la pista y continuar por la senda marcada con rayas blancas y amarillas de PR en el punto que se indica como waypoint adicional, para disfrutar de la vista del río Manzanares en el fondo del valle.

I had heard about a Pinsapo (or Pinzapo, SPANISH FIR), growing in La Pedriza, and I had never seen it. So far from their natural environment, that is the rainy Sierra de Grazalema in the province of Cádiz, or the Sierra de las Nieves in Malaga, (sites that I recommend 100% if you do not know them), the pinsapos are hardly seen, and the few they are surely come from plantations.
There is a huge pinsapo in the middle of the roundabout at La Granja (Segovia) access, which gives an idea of the size that can have (up to 30 meters).
They say the Spanish fir (ABIES PINSAPO) that is fir for excellence for its Latin root. I do not know if it's pine or spruce pine fir more, but to me is the one I like, its shape, its curious branches that grow 3 by 3 at the ends thereof, and short needles, strong and thick prepared to resist any contingency like cold, ice, wind, rain or snow.
And there, is the Pinsapo of the Pedriza, and its brothers, brave, like the eponymous comic book hero (Prince Valiant), erect, his imposing presence in the middle of a grove of replanted arizonicas, towering above, and beating the pulse of all the arizonicas, in search of light and the sun's rays
It is known that the Spanish fir is a monoecious species, that in Botany means that both sexes are presented in the same plant. Can be clearly seen in the photos the female cones which are brownish-green, elongated, isolated and lifted up in the upper branches. The male cones, however, are red or purple, smaller and are grouped at the ends of the twigs
THE CACHE
To reach the cache, take the trail that goes from the parking MACHACADERA at the point indicated as an additional waypoint. A short climb and a nice walk along the Manzanares river, walking close to the Green Pond, will take you nearby.
It is highly recommended to leave the track and continue along the path marked with white and yellow stripes (PR), at the point indicated as an additional waypoint, to enjoy the view of the Manzanares river in the valley bottom.
