Interesting place: a few farming families live here where once a village stood at site Union Pacific narrow gauge rail road passed through on way to Dennison, Muskota and points beyond. Site has been continuously occupied through generations of farm families. North Cedar is now nearly a ghost town (old maps shows a "South Cedar" as well, of which no remains exist) and like Dunavant (North of Oskaloosa) North Cedar still has one original building remaining. U.P. depot was razed in 1943.
it looks as though road realignment left this orphan bridge sitting out in a field, however the bridge is in good enough condition a farmer can make use of it accessing their fields. North up the road is another geocache and a sign erected telling about the town site having a few pictures showing the history of the area. Near the sign is where the railroad came through from Valley and the U.P. RR depot stood. Years after the railroad was abandoned the rails remained and people were known to rig their cars to ride the rails; driving back and forth across this narrow gauge railroad for fun, commonly from Valley Falls to Denison. North Cedar had a blacksmith shop and other accoutrements of a village, sort of reminds me of Oskaloosa's "Old Town" pioneer village display of historic buildings.
