This series is dedicated to the original owner: Kayakers2. As a tribute to their efforts over the many years, I wanted to revive some of their originals. Pooh in the Woods is one.
The Boy Scouts of Canada and their leadership also use Camp Sagonaska within the boundaries of Vanderwater. These young boys and girls learn about what the great outdoors have to offer. They are required to find several caches as well as create a geo-cache as a badge requirement.
This series of caches is located in the 625 acre Col. Roscoe Vanderwater Conservation Area. The trail system will take you thru mature cedars forests in the low lying area to hardwood & coniferous forests on the slopes, high ground, and along the old campground road. Be sure to pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful Moira River. CITO
The caches have been placed along the Red loop trail and return to the parking lot via the old campground road. It is a full 8km & may take 2-4 hours to complete on foot. Mountain biking is possible but will present challenges along the way. Snowshoes or X-country skies are highly recommended during the winter months. I encourage you to visit during summer and winter months to see the remarkable difference.
The majority of the hides are within 15m of the trails edge. Currently there are two multis and 7 traditional, with future plans for others, including a puzzle/unknown or two to keep things interesting. All are above the “normal” winter snow levels for this area, with the exception of one or two that may require some digging.
The hides should be easy…the hike is the important event!!
THIS IS A SERIOUS HIKE & MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR ALL CACHERS.
Necessities: good footwear, water, snacks, camera, seasonal bug spray/jacket and/or appropriate clothing.
THIS CACHE: When you arrive at the published coords, you will see a mile marker with two numbers engraved in red. Use the numbers as XX (no decimal) then add 4 to this number to get a distance in meters. Now from the mile marker, project a waypoint 216 degrees TN. You will have to follow this projected waypoint the distance calculated to find the cache.
