Anchorage has many tunnels under roads to keep bikes and pedestrians safe. Most of them are in the northern part of town. This tunnel in South Anchorage is rather hidden and probably few motorists know it is there. The nearest parking is on side streets north of the tunnel, about a 700 foot walk on paved bike paths to the tunnel. The hide is the kind of hide that I most like to find myself. Please re-place the cache carefully so it doesn't get muggled.
If you like tunnels, be sure to check out the Whittier Tunnel about 60 miles southeast of Anchorage. It is both a highway and railroad tunnel that passes 13,300 ft (2.5 miles) under Maynard Mountain. The Whittier Tunnel is North America's #1 longest combined rail and highway tunnel and #2 longest highway tunnel. The tunnel traffic is only one way at at a time, so traffic changes direction every half hour and can be stopped all together if a train needs to use the tunnel. Of course there are geocaches close to both ends of the tunnel to find while you are waiting.
