JVM 02 - Horváth Mihály tér
Ezzel a sorozattal szeretném megmutatni Józsefváros kevésbé jó hírű részét, annak legforgalmasabb terein keresztül. A 'Nyócker' hírhedt közterei az elmúlt években szinte kivétel nélkül megújultak, szebb képet nyújtva a városrésznek. Járd végig a kb. 3 km-es sétát és merészkedj be Józsefváros mélyére, alkoss saját véleményt a kerületről és lakóiról! Csak saját felelősségre kereshető.
Horváth Mihály tér
Józsefváros főterének kikiáltott Horváth Mihály téren számos építészeti remekművet csodálhatunk meg. A Szent József plébániatemplom a késő barokk jeles emléke, alapkövét 1797-ben fektették le. A templom előtti kis téren Pázmány Péter szobrát láthatjuk, melynek külön érdekessége, hogy 1956-ig a Kígyó téren (mai Ferenciek tere) állt és átszállításának körülményei máig ismeretlenek.
A templommal szemben állva balra található a Ray Rezső által tervezett József Telefonközpont monumentális épülete. Az évek óta üresen álló műemlék épület akár a nyolcadik kerület egyik ékköve is lehetne, de egyelőre kiüresedett fantomépületként terebélyesedik a Horváth Mihály tér oldalában. A vasvázas szerkezetet szinte művészeti eszközként használó Ray egy palotára, már-már várkastélyra emlékeztető épületet tervezett az akkori Mária Terézia térre. A József-központot 1917-ben nyitották meg 5200 előfizetővel. Pletykák szerint az épületet a közelmúltban egyiptomi befektetők vásárolták meg és luxus szálloda építését tervezik.
A Budapesti Fazekas Mihály Gyakorló Általános Iskola és Gimnázium az ország egyik legjobb oktatási intézménye. Országos hírű a speciális matematika tagozata, ahol több, mára elismert matematikus is végzett, de emellett a többi tantárgyat is nagyon magas szinten oktatják. A továbbtanulási arány magas, általában a tanulók 99%-a bekerül az általa választott felsőoktatási intézménybe.
With this series I would like to show you the part of the VIII. district (Józsefváros) that has a less good reputation, through it's busiest squares. In the last few years these squares of the notorious "Nyócker" (the nickname given to the district) have been renovated, thus giving a a more nicer look to the district. Look for the caches in this series, venture into the depth of Józsefváros and form your own opinion about the district and it's inhabitants. Search on your own responsibility, some parts might be less tourist friendly.
Horváth Mihály square
Multiple architectural beauties can be seen at the Horváth Mihály square, that was recently labeled as the main square of Józsefváros. The church of Saint Joseph is a late baroque creation, that was funded in 1797. On the small square before the church is the statue of Péter Pázmány, who was a philosopher/theologian Hungarian Jesuit redited for reating the Hungarian literary language.
Facing the church, on the left side is the monumental building of the József Telephone Center, designed by Rezső Ray. The heritage proteted building could be a jewel of thhe district, but it is deserted for years now. Ray used the iron truss almost as an artistical tool to create a palace-like building on the former Maria Theresa square. The Telephone Center was opened in 1917 with 5200 subscribers. Rumour has it, that Egyptian investors plan a luxury hotel in the building.
On the right side is the Fazekas Mihály Scool, which is one of the best schools of the country. It's mathematic department is known across the country, many great mathematicians have studied here, but the other subjects are taught on a higher standard. The rate of the students who pursue a higher education is very high, usualy 99% of the students get admitted to the university of their choice.
