Geocache Description:

This cache can be found as part of a gentle stroll around Little Burstead.

The area surrounding GZ is very swampy so I recommend sticking to the marked path.

The River Crouch is a river that flows entirely through Essex. It rises here is Little Burstead. From small beginings, the River Crouch winds its way eastwards, through Crays Hill, Ramsden Bellhouse, the centre of Wickford, Runwell, Battlesbridge (where it starts to become navigatable), Althorne, Creeksea and finally heads out to sea at Burnham on Crouch.

If you are thinking of doing a cache and dash here then please be aware that Wiggins Lane is a byway. I have marked a suggested parking place on the main road, which will mean a short walk to the cache.

I do NOT recommend you drive along the byway. The route from Tye Common Road to GZ is flat and well maintained, but this is only the case as far as the house just beyond the cache. After that it is muddy, uneven and extremely hazardous. Without a suitable vehicle for such conditions you will be in danger of grounding, tipping over and/or getting stuck in the mud. Bear in mind that there is nowhere to turn round; one side is fenced off footpath and the other side is swampy with many ponds along its length.
If you choose to drive, you will either have to drive the whole length and deal with the hazardous you encounter, or reverse a considerable distance back to the main road and hope no-one is coming along behind you.
