This cache is easily accessible from the Giant Tree Trail, which can be accessed by parking at the Old Playground Area or off the picnic loop. If the gate to the Old Playground Area is closed, you can park your car just outside the gate and walk in. The area is still open for pedestrians, even if the gate is closed. The trail runs through some of the oldest woods on the park, possibly old growth. Several of the tallest trees on the park are located just off the trail that runs through these woods. The trail is made up of mostly moderate terrain and is well marked with a yellow blaze. Depending where you access the trail, you will hike through a vareity of habitats, catch glimpses of wildlife, as well as experience different types of flora along your route. Entrance from the Old Playground Area is quickest for a short park and grab, but regardless of where you start the trail, take the time to hike it in it's entirety, especially since it's only half a mile.
The Giant Tree Trail is not a well used trail, somewhat of a hidden gem in the park. It affords the guest great views, a variety of terrain, ecosystems, and wildlife. Please be respectful of all user groups. Be aware that most trails in the park are open to hikers, bicyclists, and horseback riders, but any motorized means of transportation are not permitted on trails in North Bend State Park.
Be respectful of the state park and help keep it clean and safe for future seekers.
