Geocache Description:

Renowned 18th century artist JMW Turner didn’t turn a blind eye when he came to Wakefield in 1797 during his first tour of Yorkshire. The cache you’re looking for will take you close to the site of one of only six remaining bridge chapels in the UK, a vista which Turner painted during his visit.  It’s part of a series of caches in the centre of Wakefield placed by the council to highlight some of the more interesting historical sights.

You’ll get a great view of the river, the city’s internationally-renowned gallery, The Hepworth Wakefield, and the impressive sweeping weir, which holds back the water to enable a part of the nearby canal, the Calder and Hebble Navigation, to have enough water so it can be used by boats.

There’s lots of parking around the city and it’s an easy walk to the site. It might be best to avoid the Hepworth’s car park if you’re only coming for the cache as it makes an all-day charge and there’s no provision for short-stays. Not visiting the gallery while you’re here would be a missed opportunity though.
