A JOURNEY TO BASSOVILLE, Northside
Recent excavations have finally unearthed the ancient Bassoville Trolley Car System, Maguire Line. Few folks know that Ernest Maguire was the very first trolley car conductor employed by the Bassoville empire. Due to his excellent trolley conducting skills, the two peaks in Bassoville were named in his honor.
In ancient times, the Bassoville trolleys could be seen coursing up and down the knolls in this area, carrying gold nuggets from the fanatical miners, who worked in this area. At times, the trolleys were so heavy with gold, that the riders had to get out and push!
After unloading the gold, it was packed into jetliners taking off from Bassoville International Airport. There's not much left to the airport now, but you can still see parts of runway 79-Right, which later became Welch Creek Rd. The runway wasn't very wide, and the pilots had to be careful they didn't go over the side. The control tower was up on the highest peak, which had an "express" trolley to ferry the tower employees back and forth.
Recommend parking on Welch Creek Rd near the 1.6 mile market. Be sure to get the parking permit (or display the East Bay Parks placard if you are a member. The sheriff patrols Welch Rd and issues citations ($43), so don't chance it.
